40 years ago on April 22, 1970 the first Earth Day was started. Motivated by his own concerns and a growing demand by the American public for cleaner air, water and land Senator Gaylord Nelson led the establishment of the first Earth Day. It is estimated over 20 million Americans from cities all over the United States participated in the first Earth Day. This focus on the environment led congress and President Nixon to create the Environmental Protection Agency in late 1970.
While their is much debate on the impact of mankind on global warming, their is little doubt we can impact the environment with our choices on a daily basis. Paper or Plastic? How about long lasting, reusable canvas!
